Tata partners with AGL Energy on cloud digital transformation

Indian IT services outsourcing company Tata Consultancy Services is partnering with Australian energy company AGL to deliver an organisation-wide cloud transformation program for AGL.

The program is aimed at enabling AGL’s growth strategy and achieving its vision of becoming a “digital utility of the future”.

Tata says the transformation program, launched in early 2020, the envisages “modernising the application estate and moving workloads to the cloud, to create a new future-proof digital core that will allow AGL to accelerate its innovation and deliver superior customer experiences.”

“The TCS and AGL teams used their contextual knowledge to assess and plan the upgradation path for each of the legacy applications and create the migration roadmap,” Tata said in statement.

“Leveraging its Cloud Migration Factory that uses high levels of automation to speed up the migration, TCS has already transformed and optimised over 50 applications and transitioned 50% of the corporate workload to the cloud, supporting the exit of AGL’s Melbourne and Sydney data centres.

“Further, to fully realise the economic benefits of the cloud, TCS helped deploy a new DevOps based operating model with high levels of automation and self-service capabilities. Set to run until 2022, the cloud transformation program is expected to significantly accelerate innovation at AGL, harnessing the cloud-native capabilities in AI, ML and IoT to develop new products and enhance customer experience. Already, the new operating model has helped reduce testing time tenfold, and deliver enhancements 20 times more frequently than three years ago.”

“We have made good progress and continue to build momentum in our Cloud Transformation Program. Partnering with TCS helped us reduce risks and accelerate the migration, meeting our stretch targets. Once we complete this program, AGL will be very well placed to deliver superior customer experiences and drive growth,” said Owen Rapose, Head of Cloud Technology, AGL.

“We are proud to partner with AGL in leading digital transformation in the utilities industry, adopting new technologies to drive innovation, engage better with customers and strengthen competitive differentiation,” said Vikram Singh, Country Head, TCS Australia and New Zealand.

“Our decade-long partnership gives us deep contextual knowledge and insights that are invaluable in such large, complex transformations. We are only at the start of a long transformation journey that will see further unlocking of value as we start building innovations that leverage the full power of the cloud stack.”

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight’s next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
