What are the Popular Trends that is Revolutionizing Mobile…

By Martech Outlook | Monday, September 28, 2020

New technological trends that will continue to shape the landscape bringing about new challenges in marketing.

Fremont, CA: Last year mobile marketers witnessed an exponential rise of TikTok and new forms of shoppable ads and social commerce. The same trend continued in the first half of 2020 as the marketers strived to differentiate themselves on social platforms, old and new both.

After many years then influencer marketing was hit by the deprecation of the Instagram-like, potentially revolutionizing the tactic in 2020 and beyond that. Additionally, in the middle of the Streaming Wars came to the most awaited debut of the mobile-first Quibi platform, and the potential for 5G finally deliver after the year’s long hype.

Here are three critical developments that are set to shape the mobile marketing world.

Quibi aims to crack the code on mobile video

After three years since the effort was first declared, Quibi was finally launched in the first half of the year. The mobile-only short-form video platform is focused on finding success in a space where Verizon, Samsung, Comcast, and many others had to face costly failures.

According to research, even if consumers are as down on Quibi as the forecast, it doesn’t mean that short-form mobile content is going anywhere, especially as U.S. adults are spending more time using their mobile devices than they spend watching TV, with 40 percent of their daily digital video viewing time taking place on a mobile device.

Social commerce and shoppable ads are the next mobile battlegrounds

While product sales via social media make a relatively small sliver of e-commerce, the trend gaining popularity this year as platforms incorporate native features that provide the users with a more unified experience. Currently, the shoppers browse social platforms to find products and engage with brands, but the transaction is completed outside the app, typically on a company’s website or a separate messaging system. This is a very limiting factor as far as giving users a holistic experience from discovery to purchase is concerned.

5G picture takes shape

After a long waiting time and hype, plenty of experts claimed that 2019 is going to be the year when fifth-generation wireless communication networks, or 5G, would revolutionize the mobile landscape. While numerous providers have started the roll-out, the technology is just beginning to reach the consumers’ smartphones.

Together with increasing the time spent on streaming services, 5G is expected to power the augmented reality (AR) experiences, which have been a part of marketers’ toolboxes for years but usually fail to move beyond gimmickry. However, faster 5G could mean more meaningful in-store applications, as it is predicted that AR shopping will grow to 100 million consumers this year.
