Rise in sales and digital ads offers good news for Reach | Business


The owner of the Mirror and Express newspapers has enjoyed a bounce in digital advertising and newsstand sales after profits tumbled during the height of the Covid-19 economic shutdown.

Reach, which is Britain’s largest regional news publisher, said advertisers had begun to increase their spending as restrictions eased over the summer. “We’ve seen a real recovery in digital advertising. A lot of big national advertisers are looking regionally; they need to get to their customers in Newcastle, Manchester and Glasgow,” Jim Mullen, chief executive, said.

The rebound had been led by food retailers, the government, telecoms suppliers and leisure companies, according to Mr Mullen, 50.
